Emirates ID: Activate it for E-gate

Residents of the UAE can now activate their Emirates ID Card for use on UAE airport E-gates. The cost for this privilege will cost the Emirates ID Card holder AED 150 and will be valid for 2-years.

According to the Emirates Identity Authority (Eida), the service is now activated at all UAE airports and renewing the card once every 2-years will also cost AED 150.

The service is now available to both locals and expats. If you currently hold a separate e-gate card, you can also switch this to the new Emirates ID Card service.

Eid Al Fitr holiday announced in UAE

It has now been announced that all Government offices in the UAE will be closed from August 7th to August 11th for the celebration of Eid Al Fitr.

Although the holidays have now been announced and will probably not change, they may still change as the timings all depend on certain moon activity.

The announcement was made on Tuesday 30th July. When the private sector holidays will begin has not yet been announced.

During Eid Al Fitr, parties will be taking place all over the world to celebrate the completion of Ramadan.

Abu Dhabi: Road crashes drop during Ramadan

Although car crashes may have decreased in Abu Dhabi during Ramadan compared to last Ramadan, the number of deaths from car accidents have gone up.

Note: All statistics are according to the first 15 days of Ramadan.

According to the Traffic Coordination Department, 119 traffic accidents took place in the first 15 days of Ramadan 2013 and 147 last year, which means this year there was a decrease by 28 car accidents. During the first 15 days of Ramadan 2013, 28 people lost their lives on Abu Dhabi roads while last year 21 people lost their lives.
